Pierre-Louis de Lorimier (1748–1812)
Step back into the eighteenth-century world of Jean Pierre Girardeau—French army officer, fur trader and merchant. He was born December 1, 1723, in the Illinois country of Upper Louisiana. Before 1765, he established a trading post on a rock promontory jutting out from the west bank of the Mississippi River and from this cape the city received its name.
